As you may know here in So Cal old Cats are becoming hard to find. So a friend heard of a widow nearby who had recently sold an old John Deere and needed some other stuff off her property. We stopped by this afternoon, looked around and after I got over my disbelief we made a deal. What I got:
Early D2 side tank complete, unique rear hydraulics good u/c
D2 seat tank electric start pony good u/c
D4 engine out very good u/c
Fifteen complete
Ten? finals & u/c
industrial (315?) head off
unknown pull grader
2 springtooth harrow
unknown disc
all misc Cat parts in the shop
Who knows what will show up when I start digging in the shop. So far most of the major parts are accounted for so maybe the rest of the Ten is in there.
I don't have S/Ns yet but will post them as well as more pics. The seat tank D2 was the working tractor several years ago and by its general great condition appears to have the actual 7000 hours shown on the meter. The u/c on The Nudist D4 is trashed so I have a home for that. I'm gonna need some help ID-ing a bunch or stuff so be forewarned. I'll be posting for sale everything I don't need but am not going to tackle this project until next year sometime.

Good find Carl. .that's why I like taking the long way home from town in the summer. I "find" all sorts of neat stuff folks have sitting around their farms and ranches. And if they don't want to get rid of something, chances are that they know someone else who does. That was kind of how I found the D4 7U I'm using now, just took a bit of work to get everything to function again.

Real treasure trove, Carl, and highly unusual to find something like this still left these days in the rapidly urbanizing Southern CA area.
Got any more photos of the property and equipment you could post? Thanks.

Hey Cat I'm heading up there this week to pay her, take more pics & write down some S/Ns. Also gonna take some lite and root around in the barn some more. If you think there is some gem I missed don't get your hopes up!
I bought everything that was not spoken for except some woodwork tools and air compressors. I will probably take those too as she needs someone to haul off the scrap and I'll aready have the equipment on site.
On that subject anyone interested in this?

Carl,
Grab the compressor, an old workmate of mine once told me,
"It will be handy, if never used"

Any help you can offer with year or other info is much appreciated!
The D2 side tank is s/n 3J8126
The D2 seat tank is s/n 4U905
What I thought was a D4 is an R4! I can't make out the s/n but check out the plate below. The entire engine and pony are disassembled and covered in the shop.

I could not find any s/n, any ideas where to look? It seems to be complete except the carb and PTO. Can you ID the series by the pics?
There is another pic at the top of this thread.
Thanks
