Cedar typically - there's a house around the corner for me that has genuine cedar shingles on the roof and another with cedar shingles on the walls. Lots of houses back East have cedar shingle walls (exterior)
Nowadays most roofs use asphalt shingles - basically some kind of fabric covered with an asphalt/grit layer.

That belt pulley video was awesome - I could sit there and watch that spin all day long - need more of a close-up though : )

Cheers,
Neil

We too have a Chase shingle mill, but ours is missing the planner attachment. There is nothing better than setting a cedar log in it and letting it eat. Have never ran ours with a Cat, but it is in the pls if I ever get my cold package 30 with belt pulley running.

We used red cedar which is becoming harder to find. We will do a close up next time we run it, which will probably not be until next year.
