D8 2U Transmission Repair was created by Km
Could someone please tell me how to get the transmission input shaft out of a D8 2U 10488? It started popping out of reverse. I took the clutch out and took the top off the transmission case. The gears look good but the front input shaft bearing is gone. There may be other damage. How does a person get too it?
Thanks,

Master clutch needs to be removed. Top of transmission and steering clutch housing removed. Front of transmission can be removed along with top shaft. This is not an easy task. You'll need hoisting equipment, a service manual and a parts book. A good tight shop with heat would be nice too.
I have a shop manual covering 1H, 8R, and 2U1-21512,
Engine and chassis.

Best get the Servicemens Reference Book.....it's a pretty snaky procedure to maneuver the top shaft out of there.

Bill and OM,

Really appreciate the reply.
It looks like this will be a good one.
I do have a good place to work.

I would have taken the front off the transmission but could not get the PTO shaft off the back. I pulled on it with a good four ton. Did not want to go any more for fear of breaking something. Have not yet taken the steering lever casting off.
Maybe there is a pin in it.

Thanks for info.
This board is great.
