I just returned from the farm again and as usual have more questions.I'm
having lots of fun trying to learn these old D7.I have a shop and parts
manual but can't find some information i need.I removed the large plug
in the steering clutch hydraulic control unit and only saw a small
amount of fluid in the bottom of the housing.Does the unit use regular
hydraulic fluid and should the housing be full??

Hi Don,
The level check is the small pipe plug just to the right of the big fill plug.
Uses same oil as used for main engine.

The tough one is to change oil in the steering unit as the drain plug is accessed inside the bevel gear compartment behind the rear cover plate. It is also possible to suck the oil out of the strainer hole after removing the plug and strainer on the top center of the unit. Should line up with that hole through the tank seat. At least I know it does on the D6...not sure on the D7.

You need one more manual.....the Operation and Maintenance Instructions form #FEO31389-11.....for serial numbers 17A1-up.

Someone has put the following in the parts manual specs..

crankcase oil = 15-40
flywheel clutch oil = 30
transmission oil = 30
steering clutch booster = ?
final drive oil = ?
