The DW 10 did run this week !!!!!!!

I bought my DW10 from Dave Geis, who got it from the owners of the Mackey elevator, next door to my home. I remember seeing them using it to plant the vacant land in my neighborhood.
They were pretty inventive, rigging it with a "sort-of" hydraulic 3 point raiseable drawbar, a Griesen 3 spool setup, and they seperated the coupling between the engine and the transmission, and inserted a pully in there, used to run a spray rig. Unfortunately, the crossbar for the brakes was in the way, which they cut....airbrakes on one side only....
They explained to me they hated frying in the sun, so they cut down an old John Deere combine cab and mounted it up, and added a sqirrel cage fan to the roof, also driven off the hydraulic system, to the roof.
Mr Mackey told me they bought it used from our local Cat dealer, Missouri Valley Machinery (now Nebraska Machinery) sometime in the 60's, after it had been rolled. It was in use as their farm tractor until the early 90's, when the land was sold. It sat unused until a few years ago, when Dave bought it as part of a package deal with a Michigan truck crane they had. I in turn bought it from him, and we finally got it started earlier this year.
It ran for about 2 minutes, blew a hose and oiled my leg (out of spite, for disturbing it's 16 year sleep!) and I haven't had time to work on it since.
There's always next year....

Here's a picture of the hydraulic lift that we made on our DW15. I guess you have to add weight on the rear, as they have much weight on the front wheels...

Actually we don't use any type of equipment! We are planning to make an Athey-type low loader with detachable gooseneck for the DW15 to transport our D8-2U. When detaching the gooseneck we will use the lift to be able to drive away from the loader.

My father and I used a DW15 for plowing using an Oliver 6 bottom plow. When the ground was to wet we just hooked up the plow to our D7. This was in the early 1960's in southwestern Minnesota. One day I was plowing with the D7 and my neighbor was going in low gear with his Farmall M in an old alfalfa field. I crossed over and started in front of him going in third gear and I almost ran him over before he finished that round. We hooked up three pull type field cultivators behind the DW15 and I could do 80 acres in one day....

Here in Pierre, SD back in the late 50;s there was a farmer who used DW20 tractors however I don't have any information, I did stop by the field where the 20 was setting and look it over. In 1963 while on leave had the opportunity to operate a D8 36A straight stick pulling 60 feet of duck foot in the Shelby Montana area. Pretty impressive use of the power that 8 had.
