Just wanted to say that D4Jim is absolutely right on. The US$ is loosing purchasing power because the US Government and the Federal Reserve Board have been printing dollars without anything to back them. The result: "inflation", which means a "deflation" in the value of the $. This is intentional, but hurts many Americans - especially those of us who are retired and on a fixed income. The government doesn't care about us. I would prefer to see us go back on the gold standard so that our money is stabilized. As it is, the Government is stealing our wealth and applying it to its own purposes.
Bought 85 octane gas here in Denver yesterday, think it was about $2.959 per gallon. Last week was about $2.75 per gallon.

We had fuel protests in the UK a few years back,no sign of them now!! The main person that was involved in organizing them has been " bought" The amount of tax we pay in the UK is very high.I think a lot of jobs will be lost in the transport industry as firms try to make savings. Our prime minister has the personality of a peanut.I know of a lot of people leaving the UK because the harder you work the more you get s*** on.
Well I feel better for that, must have been suffering from S.A.D.

Martyn, I understand. Unfortunately, you can't expect to get better treatment in Canada, which is probably even more "wackko" than is the US culture right now. There was a time when Canada was a relief-valve, but it too has multiple social problems. Maybe Australia??? Does anyone have a comment? GWH

Our fuel at the moment is around $1.25 p/litre, but they reckon by Christmas it will be $1.50.
12 months ago it was worth $1.10 and the aussie dollar was worth 70 US cents, now the Aussie dollar is over 90 US cents and we are still paying more.
Oil companies aren't fixing prices, are they:rolleyes:

Gas is still 2.99 but diesel went up to 3.36 today. The 2 other stations are higher on both gas and diesel. catskinner

Macca, I don't think oil compaies are fixing prices. Prices are anything but "fixed" here in Houston. I would be happy to see them fixed at one price for some period of time instead of the sharp increase upward.
Premium Shell is $3.08/gal
#1 diesel is $3.49/gal

If it's not price fixing, I'd like to know what it is! One station raises their prices and the next on raises theirs within minutes, even though one might be Exxon and the next Standard. I bought fuel the other day at a Humble station as they're supposedly not using foreign oil . I asked why if they don't use foreign oil their prices are nearly as high as companies that DO use oil from overseas. The answer I got was "because we can".

OR Buy a horse!
Guy at work the other day said remember Mad Max using animals to tow his car across the desert in search of Gas?
I said, "Yes"
He said, "Get Ready because if it keeps up thats where we are headed!"
