Working to replace wet clutch from our D6 9U, and have some questions; First my presumption is that the bell housing comes off first then I can get the Clutch out.

Have removed the PUP motor Pulley and belts, Dash, Undone all the control linkages, and the driveshaft, and removed all the bolts/nuts on the bell housing;

The bell housing is now loose but there is not enough room for it to come off the cat, it slides and moves easily but doesn't slide back enough, what have we done wrong.

I have ordered the service manual on Ebay but it isn't here yet and will take another week and hoping to get a fresh start.

Do I have to remove the brake hub from the bell housing and if so how do I do that, which bolts remove it, the bolts inside the bell housing or the bolts just behind the brake drum

Yes, you need to remove the brake drum, bolts inside backside of drum. Also remove the hydraulic oil circulation pump to get the clearance you need plus avoid buggering up the pump drive.

Will pay to put something over that pony shaft to protect it from getting clouted. I have managed to get one out without removing the pony flywheel, difficult but possible.
Must remove the oil pump first I doubt it is possible to reach from the top.
Rig up a hoist it is rather heavy.

Thanks for the comments to be clear, looking at the attached picture are these the bolts by the red arrow to remove the brake drum, and by the green arrow or blue arrow is that the oil pump.

I have a chain falls not in the picture prepped to lift it out, and I do have a rubber hose to go over the shaft, thanks for that, really appreciated.

The brake drum bolts are inside the drum, right next to where the u-joint mounts (4- bolts)

The oil pump mounts to the outside of the clutch cover, just below the brake drum.

Got yah thanks, now I see the bolts and the oil pump, it was dark when I got to that stage so didn't see them thanks

It is one of those hold you mouth right kind of jobs.With all the room in the world why could Cat engineers not make the frame at least 1 inch longer and 2 would be even better. Oh then there would not be much to keep any body from getting it apart.When your sure it will not fit take a break and come back and after cooling off and move it around a little and it will fit.Good luck.

but to be clear,

I take of the brake drum, I think i felt 6 bolts
Then I take off the oil pump, appears like the bolts are on the outside of the cover think I see around 4
And then the large cover should come off

Just got my service manual and it talks about unbolting the clutch and taking them off together, am I reading that wrong?

That is correct, comes out as an assembly.

Thanks to all the help, got the housing and clutch out and found out some stuff.

The shaft on the oil pump was broken, likely cause of the clutch failure, the plates clearly overheated.

The output shaft that the driveshaft connects to had a bearing failure and is now quite worn.

So the questions are;

Where do I get plates for clutch? any suggestions I'm in canada if that makes a difference and part numbers if you got em

Anybody have a spare oil pump, or know where i can get an shaft for it, that is the main driveshaft on the oil pump

And the output shaft any idea where I can get a used one in good shape, if not I likely will need to have this one built up and then machined.

Oh and one additional question, brother in law who owns machine asked if the rear engine seal was replaceable and how difficult a job it was now that the clutch was out. I said i would ask this great forum.
