Okay boys I need help!!!!! I have a 933 42a978 with motor issues I found a cat D311-H (new style motor) power unit very low hrs. It has same block casting nos but has wrong govener, oil pan, front cover, crankshaft pulley, and bell housing. The head is the same also but the motor rating tag says 1500rpm and 46 hp (which I think is low) can I use the long block assy with my govener and pump assy ,covers and pulley in my tractor?? It looks possible but before I commit it would be nice to know. Thanks in advance!! Scotty

I can see no reason why you can,t but you,ll need all the changes to fit up to the tractor.

When you take the pan off check the oil pump pickup as I do not think that a stationary engines has two and two pickups are needed in the 933 for when going up steep slopes etc.

Yes if the pump is removed you have to time the balancer shafts first before installing the pump. If the engine is on #1 the two shafts should have their flats straight up & there ia a threaded bolt hole in the bottom of the block to make sure they are correct if I remember correctly then you can put the pump up in place. There is timing marks on the pump gear but if the shafts are timed just put the pump up.

It was specified for a loader probably, but I have just reassembled a D320 industrial that had a small scavenge pump and pickup running to the clutch end of the engine, the main sump is at the timing cover end where the pump drives off the balancing shaft drive train. It came out of another brand of large forklift.
If you have one with the flat plate type pan/cover with a sump bolted to that on one end, be careful when you remove it. Remove the sump first and reach up inside and disconnect the plate from the scavenge pump pickup tube before you remove it so you don't break the elbow that bolts to the pump.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D

The pan looks the same as loader but the drain plugs are on the side not on the bottom like the loader the motor looks almost identical except for what I have noted I dont know about the hp rating ( I think the loader is 65 and the pu is 45 ) is this changed in the pump itself? Thanks Scotty

Yes the power settings are done in the gov. with settings to the rack & RPMs & could be a different gov. spring but I don,t have parts books on them to check that out.If the original gov & inj. housing is used from the loader then things will be back to standard for the loader. RPMs should be checked out & set to specs anyway if you use the original 933 housing & gov.so it,s up to power & specs.after it,s up & running again.
