Hello ACMOC/ACME-

My name is Carl Sharp and I live in Chino Hills, CA. My primary job is as a skiploader owner/operator. I am also a welder, blacksmith and mechanic amongst other things. I have always been interested in old industrial machinery, and have a few flywheel engines and two John Deere Model D tractors as well as some other oddball stuff.

I belong to the California Blacksmith Association, Western Antique Power Associates, The Vista Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum and pending, ACMOC.

While picking up a 1956 BB Miller forklift I had purchased I saw a Cat crawler parked under a tree, made inquiry, and soon took it home too. It's a 1935 twenty-two in pretty good shape, and ran about four years ago. It's gonna need a little work, tho, and I'm gonna have a bunch of questions, so be warned!

My first question is about cross-posting on these lists, (like this post). Should I ask the same questions to both lists? Or is there enough of a membership overlap that it is not necessary, or is it considered rude or improper?

Thanks for reading. For more on picking up the Cat, (literally) see:

Welcome aboard Carl, there is a lot of membership overlap, but it isn't 100% so it is a good idea to ask on both. There is always some one willing to help or at least try.
Good luck, Jim

Hello Carl.
Nice to see another 22 saved from the wreckers. whats been mounted onto the back of the seat is this a high hitch for added traction?

Hey Oz-
Looks like a homemade three point hitch to me, I'll burn it off when it gets to the shop. At first you think, wow, look at the nice sturdy one inch thick plate bracket for the top link, untill you realize that it's bolted to the sheet metal seat pan!

Carl thanks for the pictures.
Just shows how strong these CATS are, what other tractor could you swing a hitch point off the back of the seat. Some people will do anything.

I think the video being referred to has been on RFDTV's Classic Tractor show several times over the last several years. It is an ~1hr long video of the Vista, CA show made sometime in the not too distant past. I believe it also had a mid teens Holt or Best stationary engine originally owned by DWP but now part of the Vista collection. Another interesting subject is a former Avalon (Santa Catalina Island) Power Plant with a three cylinder Fairbanks Morse Diesel)

RFDTV is on both satellite networks. Classic Tractors airs 6:00PM SUN and Machinery of the Past airs 11:00PM TUE. Railroads and Locomotives airs 11:00 MON. These shows air at a couple of other times throughout the week.
