Nice find Josh! Next time you and I are able to hook-up at you place please let me look at the little gem. I regret selling the Lindemann I once had.

ttman4,
The reason that it looks like a Poppin Johnnie is because its a BO wheel tractor that was made in to a crawler by Lindeman Power Equipment Company in Yakima, Washington. I wish I had one.

Replied by drujinin on topic It is a Flywheel....
John Deere sent the early style "B" out to Lindeman Brothers in California or Washington State to be outfitted with tracks to fill a demand by the Orchard Growers for something that is stable on the sidehill.
I hope that clarifies TTMAN's observation of a flywheel on the side.

Thanks guys, clears up a bunch.
When I was a kid in N Central Tx we had a neighbor that had some old Poppin-Johnnies & he did lots farming with them....he had newer equipment too.
Dad wasn't in the pic, so I hung round him a lot growing up. When I was about 11 he put me on a really big 'ol Popper. Don't know what size or #, but she was big. IIRC it was a 2 cyl & was diesel, had hand clutch, & as I remember had big flywheel on rt side. Don't remember for sure, but seems like it hand cranked using that flywheel. I also recall brass cyl vent/bleed valves like my D69U pony has. I do know that tractor had tons of power, lots of lugging, down & dirty power!

He had other smaller JD Poppers I ran, but that big one stands out in my mind. & when I think back to those days I marvel at how it's a wonder I didn't get kilt & maimed running all that old big stuff for him thru those years till I was grown!:) :)
But I thought I was a BigShot & Bullet Proof, the bigger the stuff he put me on!!!:D :D
