Caterpillar service awards

I have put together a display of Caterpillar service award metals (5-40 years) with what I feel is some interesting facts on Cat award history. I can bring this display to the national event next week if there is any interest (flying in on Thursday). I don't know if there will be a tent or some place to set up this display (a box roughly 2'x3') but if I bring it, I would like to have a reasonably secure area. Not that this is a very valuable thing but it has taken some time to assemble and I would like to bring it back home. :)

Hi Tom,

There is a tent where ACMOC will have tables for merchandise. I am sure we can find space for your display if you want to bring it. Also, we could lock it in my pickup overnight.

I am interested in seeing your display.

Regards,
Lee Sorbel

Tom,
Can you post any pictures of your collection for those BB members who live too far away to attend?

I think the display would be educational, and by all means, bring it to the show! GWH

Thanks for the feedback. I'd be delighted to bring the display. George, I'll post a picture to the BB as soon as I pull the glass off the box to reduce reflection.

I've been hard at it trying to get a few finishing touches on the Thirty so I'll have a few pictures to share with Al and some of my buddies on the right coast.

Thanks,
tom

Sorry it's taken so long but I've had other priorities and I also tried to resize and crop the original. Resized ok but crop is greyed out on my copy of Photoshop and I'm not smart enough to make it do what it don't want.

This is kind of a hurry up for the Richmond show and I plan to do a better job of lining this stuff out and also writing a short article for the mag.

If anyone is interested in the larger file size image, drop me a line.

The Richmond show was not only a surprise for me with all the old gear but for a south Texas boy, the weather was super. I did make a unintentional tactical error when I wore my LSU shirt on the Carter Machinery tour. It seems there was a lot of Virginia Tech football fan employees working there. It was a great tour despite dodging the occasional thrown object:eek: . The people there put on a super tour. A very impressive facility.

I remember back in probably the 40s & the 50s and maybe a little later Cat had watch fobs that the dealers passed out & were and is a real collectors item today. Some people have a real hobby of collecting watch fobs from different businesses and also belt buckles are another one.

SJ, I've seen some of those watch fob collections/display and they are truely impressive. My little collection is much more modest and not as open ended as a fob collection. There was a very limited number of designs and variations of the service awards. The only real variation I've been able to find so far is the "charm" service award in 10 and 15 years. These were obviously given to the ladies.
