Hi again Ian,
spent yesterday morn. at youngest Grandson's Little Athletics and the arvo at a Reunion for Ex Dealer Apprentices that worked Field Service.--Great get together and also to catch up with lads I had helped train over the years.

Yup, 17's Motto for sure.
Due to my civvy. qualifications, Dealer Trained Cat Apprentice, I was posted as a Plant Operator and a Plant Fitter.
Spent some time working with our 17 Const Sqn. RAEME Unit doing Plant Repairs and Servicing--they had no true Plant Mechs.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Hi Ianoz, what's that unit you're using to (un)load with? Looks like Bulldog-type exhaust on it. Looks like two piles of chicken scratchings behind the tracks too : )
Cheers,
Neil.

Hi Neil , It is a British Built Fowler VF ,40 HP single cylinder two stroke diesel . My son had skull dragged it on to the truck and Battled to drag it off .I had a look and found the tractor ,while it appeared to be in neutral was actually in gear .It then rolled free enough to chase me down the hill .

Hi Ianoz , Thanks for Pics and story , I have a wrecked RD4 that may have some parts You will need when you get around to it . Interesting how gear shifted around During WW11 . I was looking at a Collection in East W.I. a couple years ago and the owner was showing Us through all his goodies and the last Shed He opened there was a Cat Grader . Made in Australia by Waugh and Josephson , I said 'Wacka and Jacka "and He looked at Me and said I was the First person to Recognize it's origin for as long as He had owned it , and I think He had owned it for Many years . Appears from What He had Found Out , it was Used in the islands and was sent to the States after the War . Steelweld also made Graders [S8T designation ] here , One of my Son's has one, still in Army drab and only done a little over 6000 Hours and in great Shape LJ

Hello Plantie ,Nice tn see a new Aussie face show up on the BB ,so Welcome on Board . Yours is the First D4 ex Army I have come across . heaps of R4's came this way and NSW , D2's D6's and D7's [My Wife's Uncles got a 3Tand 4t D7's from Army Stores and family still have them ] I think You may be able to Trace it's original Service Number and maybe army History . Someone on here may possibly chime in with "How To " . Does it have a Hyd. Blade or Cable ,I have seen both on R4's. If You are going to do it nice, keep it in it's Army drab and how about taking it to Lake Goldsmith next November. Caterpillar is the featured machines for that Show .Lake Goldsmith is basically West of Ballarat and a great Set up. You will get all the help need [For advise !!] on here ,Just ask .
Good luck and PLEASE We do like Picturesp would be . LJ
