Hi SJ
I will drain the cooler too as this is the main reason for doing the cleaning (I am trying to cool the torq oil better).

How are things Bill, I would recomend stripping out the coolers, then cleaning all the water tubes with a 3mm welding rod, the drain plug for the block is on the near side (left side looking from the seat forward) it's best undone using a 3/4AF 6 sided socket to avoid any damage its roughly at the bottom of No 3 cylinder I think, I would recomend spending out a few Dollars on an oil cooler gasket set from a N.O.E. dealer, take back your jar of jollop and ask for your cash back, this sort of tack finds few victims in the U.K. we prefer to wash /steam clean out any crud in the system.
I have a question for you????. I bought a Jeep a few months ago, its a Willeys Overlander M38A1 (with a 30cal Browning) is it doing harm running it on un-leaded petrol (gas)??????? I have been squirting in lead repacement stuff, am I wasting my cash like you are with your Jollop.
All the best stuff tctractors

TC, we here in the coloney's just use regular unleaded, it's not that high of compression.

Boy it sure has been a long time since I heard from both of you. Glad to see you are still available for asking my kind of questions. The good news is that I fould all of the drains (radiator, block, and oil cooler) and successfully cleaned out the water and radiator flush stuff I was running in the tractor. The bad news is that I already put coolant back in the tractor before I read your reply Tony. From the looks of things I may be able to drain out the oil cooler and not have to remove much coolant so that I can clean the heat exchanger, but that's what it looks like. (It seems the coolant would drain from the tube behind the water pump back to the heat exchanger only).
Tony I have been using unleaded fuel in a 1951 Farmall M for ~10 years now with no lead additive and have seen no ill effects. These low compression things appear to not care. Now please send a pic of your M38. I have attached one on my 1971 M35A2.

The Jeep was bought to take my garden waste to our local Council rubbish Area, it has been some great fun to own , it cost me $8,800 but its free to run other than a very low cost Insurance, the petrol thing is not my bag of tricks ,I don't even have a spark plug spanner????, to-day I have been stripping pistons and liners from a Cummins 17-10 Vee 12 engine , what a knacker this motor is , it is 28.5 ltr. this afternoon another job was offered me on another Cummins motor it is a KTA 3067 Vee 16 engine that is about 50 ltr, I dont know what HP it can push out but I cannot resist grinding in all those 64 valves plus all those Big end bolts, if I muck it up I stand to loose $90,000 ????? I may have to double check those B/end bolts,I will do a new Bill Glenns Classic Plant thing in the next few days showing a few jobs I have done in the last few weeks on D8's and the likes also I will sneak in a shot of my new works chariot,
all the utmost best to you both (Bill & Bob)

I say TC, you will have lots of fun with that Jeep if you get a good deep fall of snow next winter.
Bill did you get the emails I sent you?

Hi bob, TC and SJ,
The bonnet and heat exchanger came off in 1 piece pretty easiily. The good news is the cooler tubes were about 95% clear. There were a few tubes with crud in them but not much. There was a little bit of stuff that looked like wet newspaper on the bottom end of the cooler.
Question: what type of gasket sealer would you recommend for the gaskets that mate the bonnet to the engine block (coolant flows through the gasket).
