The 'Great Race' is always good entertainment, just remember the serious bit, the guy who lost his life when the barn roof came down could jump off and pick it up again like the one who lost his hat!

Heard about a fellow in North Mississippi who was run over by his own small dozer the other day. Story I heard was he fell off when he went over a bump of some kind. Last I heard he was liable to loose a leg if things didn't go well.
Be careful out there:)
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D

catsilver,
years ago when mates at Cat of Oz got me a copy of that race I often wondered how that fellow got on, now I know, and I am not surprised at the outcome. When I slow-motioned it, at the time, as the roof came down it can be seen to take on the shape of something round and about the size of a head--ooh my!!-- one broken neck I'd guess.

I've seen the great tractor race several times before. I have always wondered what the intent of it was? Was it a promotional film? Does anyone know?
It also appears that the tractor (looks like a Cat 30) that the barn came down on is the same one crossing the finish line in about fourth place. Were these films edited or spliced together? Just curious if anyone knows. Thanks!

I think I have a copy of this film somewhere in my pile of Cat film.Of all the Cat films I have this one really doesn't have a start or finish to it.What I mean is that it doesn't have any of the credits listed. I do have a safety film made by Cat themselves that is from the late 60's early 70's that shows a Cat 666 or a 657 ( can't remember ) that has the operator jumping off right before the sraper goes into the drink at high speed. I think my favorite film is the one titled "The First 25 diesel 60's 10 years later".

It looks like there may have been two larger Cats. First, one is shown smashing through the corner of that barn or large shed. Then one is shown climbing up the foundation and smashing into and out of that barn that then fell on the operator. I was trying to see if this was the same Cat, but I could not tell. But seeing that large Cat at the end must mean that there were two or more of them. Weren't those large Cats something on the order of Cat 60s?
Those buildings look pretty flimsy when you drive a Cat though them, but both of those stunts looked like they offered plenty of opportunity to kill an operator.
It would be interesting to learn the historical details and purpose of that race.
