A buddy of mine has a 12 grader and I would like to get him an owners manuel for it, besides e bay, and I haven't tried Cat yet where else would I look, its a No 12 se # 71D368 its a direct electric, but the back end of the block still has the port for the pony block water on the front of the bell housing, the batterys sit where the pony would go, I thought it might have been converted but the dash has no extra holes for anything else but the glow plug and start levers that are mounted together.
Thank you

When Cat started to sell equip. with direct starting they had a plate over the bell housing to cover up the base where the starting engine would go & things set up as you described. This one could be converted but chances are it wasn,t & came from the fatory set up as I mentioned.

The Cat equip. could be bought with either direct starting or starting engine & if you wanted a direct start the housing had a plate over the housing where the start. engine went & the rest set up as you described.

The model # tells the story.
A 70D1-up is gasoline starting.
A 71D1-up is direct starting as a factory installation.

Thankyou for the replies, I thought this unit had come from the factory as a direct start, as there was not many teletail signs of a pony setup haveing been there, other than the hood with a couple holes for the stack and the fuel tank, and the water tube. I take it that this is just a No 12 and not a 12 E.
