I would like to know why a cat 60 with paint is worth more than most small very rare cats? Like a 5ER2, high 10, 25, tail 10, and or the 1D high 15? thanks leroy

Leroy, I think it is just because they are such an interesting tractor in the way they start, look and sound. An older fellow from Colorado once told me that if you collect Caterpillars you either have a Sixty or you want a Sixty, I'd guess that pretty well sums it up.

The buying and selling of old Caterpillar stuff created a "market". Markets, like the stock market, are sometimes irrational. (Like now?) But the "experts" try to explain why markets behave the way they behave. I think Jim's explanation is as good as it gets for the price of a Sixty. By the way, Leroy, if you, or someone else, wants a Sixty, I think Jim Zimmerman has one that is in good running shape.

George, i have a 60 , thanks though. It is interesting that the second most made gas caterpillar is worth so much verse the very rare machines. There still must be 3000-6000 still around . thanks leroy

You guys are right on the have or want, but cause I can't afford the sixty, I'm after a thirty. Easier to haul too. John

I don't think the price of the small machines would have been effected so much if it wasn't for one individual (not to mention a name). It seems he had alot to do with the rare machines buying selling.
