Recently aquired a 3T D7, just arrived home, changing engine oils, found different from what i expected in engine oil filters!, she has a metal filter inside with the paper cartrage inside that, the cartrage is smaller than the standard, that i thought she would have, the IR-0659, like my U series tractors,D 2,D4, and 9U D6, the smaller one is a fleetguard #LF 546. My question is... would i take out the metal filter and just put in a 1R-0659 or go get the smaller LF546 ??. Thanks for any replys. Pete. ps , i guess its better to leave as is!?

The 3T used the second version of the by-pass filter system from sr. #3T7121 to 3T15941 which uses the washable outer element 6B1851 and a disposable cartridge inner element #4A332 which matches what you describe.
To change to full flow filtering which uses the old 9F6700 element (now 1R-0659) you need the 9F6430 full-flow changeover group. Same parts as used in the conversion of the D2, D4, D6.

All but the very early D2, D4, D6 models that have been converted would be candidates for parts. Make sure you get all the pieces or you could wind up without any oil filtration.

Peter I dont think you need to changehousing. We had one on a tue nite project that was converted and I beleave it only used a diff top cap a spring and a brronze plate Not totally sure if that was all that was needed but looked kinda simple though

OM, that is the kit to change them over but I believe someone on here a while back said that only separate parts are available anymore.I changed dozens of them over at the shop & Willie you don,t change the cover but just the bolt that goes down through it & the one in the base that it screws into along with a few other small parts in the housing. This change does away with the brass screen type filter in it & uses a larger paper element to replace the original smaller paper & the brass element. This makes it a full flow system rather than a by-pass.

Yes SJ,
The kit is no longer available. Just trying to show the needed parts which can be cannibalized from other tractors. I have opened a few to find a miss match of parts that allowed oil to by-pass the cartridge thus getting no filtration at all.
