OM,

I can remember this machine being listed on ebay at least 6 months + ago.

It's certainly, a well engineered wide track conversion, the item description on ebay listed that the tractor had been employed on maintaining ski slopes, which would explain the good condition of the undercarriage.

It would be a great addition to any cat collection.

Hi David,
Yes, I know this machine has been around before but I don't remember seeing as many pictures. Appears to be well engineered conversion......I was thinking maybe it was a government project of some sort where money was no object:D

Looks like it's set up for snow. Maybe KoO should buy it?:D I can't picture a D4 handling a 12 ft. blade on anything that involved real bulldozing, so i'm thinking snow.

It appears to have two idlers in each track. Could it somehow also have two sprockets stacked in there?

Jack

Hi Team,
aviation orange under the yellow suggests an Arctic or Antarctic Special to me. Yes Jack there is two of everything there, track frames, sprockets, idlers, rails, carrier rollers, etc. they all can be seen by looking through all the pix supplied.
All in all an impressive adaption, lots of very special units were built up for arctic/antarctic traverses by various Dealers, the Dealer I worked for did some to ANARE needs, worked on many of these myself over the years.
Attached is an ANARE D4 I used to work on at the Dealer, standard wide gauge with snow cut outs in grousers, Lincoln Welder , altitude normalised engine, blade hold up bars for long distance travel without the blade dropping, especially with a couple of 44 gallon drums of fuel strapped to it, among other mods. ANARE=Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Hi Dozerman51,
hoods and covers etc trap drift in the enclosed areas making cold starts near impossible after it has turned to ice against anything warm. Even the cab doors are left open to let the drift pass through otherwise the drift just fills the cab totally. Two scans of photo copies of black & white pix shows how they found out the hard way, the cab is actually all but full of drift.
Sorry for the sore knecks as the only way I could get to post these is like this,I have reduced them as far as I know how.
Cheers,
Eddie B.
