Greetingz to all afflicted with the yeller fever. Seems like I'm bout to get it too.
I'm in need of a dozer to clear about 3 acres of land. I priced it out to a local guy and he said it would cost about a grand.
I know where I can get an HT4 in running condition for two grand.
My newbie questions:
Will/Can the traxcavator handle it? or should I find a dozer?
If a dozer is better, can the HT4 be retrofittted with a dozer blade?
Finally, is the HT4 something that I might possibly want to restore?
Thanks in advance for any input I may receive.
A future victim of yellow fever,
R!0T

Fellow afflicted:D
No reason the HT4 can't do the job and has some real advantages over the dozer. Being able to transport as well as push is pretty handy when moving stumps etc. around.
The one drawback is the flat shoe grousers which kind of limit traction, especially in hilly terrain.
There was a blade option for these units but I doubt you will find one.
The one downside is the loader is one of the worst for service access.
Restore is strictly a personal objective but the interchange of most parts except the loader itself with the basic tractor models makes parts fairly easy to obtain.

Thanks OM,
Terrain here is almost as flat as my ex, so don't have to worry about traction.
I think I'll dive head first into this one and take her home.
I'm going to need a lot of help tearing this down once I get my land cleared, so wish me luck.
Thanks again,
R!0T
I'll send pix of her tomorrow.

God I'm an idiot. Seems like my too good to be true deal was.
I've attached some pix of the HT4. Please feel free to offer any advice on undercarriage condition.
The seller fessed up and gave me a more "thorough" list of items.
First, he said the head gasket is leaking. He's sure it's a leak and not cracked...hmm
The UC went from being 60% on the phone, to around 10%.
It does run eventually, but not for long cause it starts leaking from the head.
He's willing to take less for it, but that freakin loader is exactly what OM said. It's a huge burden to work around and service access is totally unacceptable.
So, my enthusiasm has faded and now I must continue looking.
Is a D2 that's in running condition and 80% UC worth $5,000? I know where one is but that seems steep.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks m8's

Yup, undercarriage is shot on that one.
A lot of "good deals" go south when ya get there:rolleyes:
Is the D2 a dozer?......and what model? They are a little lite for serious work but are eager enough if ya got the time and technique (I just plain don't fit in em)
The $5k should get a pretty nice unit.......or another pass.
