I have an opportunity to buy a 22 Cat wide gauge and was wondering if it is possible to convert it to electric start and if so, how expensive would it be and where can I buy the parts necessary to convert.

I would think You could build an electric starter 12 volt or so , like they use on race cars to start it , thru the existing crank hole , and still keep the machine original .

22s did come with starters if wanted it as orig equip. To start with you need to take cover off from stater hole and see if it has ring gear if not youll have to pull engine and put ring on it for that you need to find and old 22 ring 118 tooth or put a ford courier diesel ringgear on it then find a 22 starter delco-remy 736-D , they are a bit rare but out there and if you want it orig. youll have to get a bat box

Can you put a starter on the front of the motor, where the alternator would go?
