Neighbor had a tree tip out in a windstorm, was hung up over his backyard and barbecue area, dropping a lot of limbs and trash. He wanted it out because it was dangerous as h___. The tree removal outfit was afraid to touch it unless we got heavy enough rigging on it to pull it back over the stump and keep it off the house if it broke off. I just happened to be in the neighborhood.

We spotted the cat, pulled out the wire and shackled it all together--about 160 feet of 7/8 drum line and extension and a good 3/4 in. choker.

Then we pulled up the slack and tipped the root ball back it's hole and held while Kris put a face cut in the stump and a small back cut. He held about 4-5 inches of wood. Then we just pulled it over. Once past center it fell like a routine timber falling.

Son-in-law took the pics, has the fall in a short video clip but I'm unable to figure how to post that. It took me two months to get around to this!

Anyway, it all came down with no wrecks. That's me in the seat pretending to know what I'm doing.

Good job. .'specially with no injuries. I'd guess getting the bull line up the tree and hooked to the choker was fun as well:D

The tree removal outfit has a big bucket truck, somehow not shown in any of my pics. The guy running that thing was holding about 50 feet of 7/8 cable over the side of the bucket and connected and pinned the shackle with one hand. Pretty handy dude, I'd say. Must be strong as a bull too.

Great job on that tree. You got a good hand on the ole D7 4 sure. Glad to see you out and about.

I am selling the former burnt shop property this week. Gave up the idea of a rebuild. Been bucking a cleanup for the last month or so to get ready for closing.

Dag gone D2 is being a beast with trying to coax the pony to get going. Am flushing the gas tank and fuel lines. Also have to replace the mag wires. Guess I'll splurge on a new set of plugs (not champion). Also dreading the onset of diesel starting. This machine has been sitting for a long bit. I have the diesel side flushed out. I hate the idea of winching it onto my trailer to transport it to a new location (home).

It's these small jobs that are the fun ones, nothing routine. We figure out how to do it as we go along. It went well. We got the tree down with no threat to his house. Neighbor was some worried about it, was glad to see that really heavy cable go up on it...

I wouldn't worry too much about firing off the diesel. Unless it's picked up a lot of water I'd bet it will start OK. A little ether after it's blowing smoke good doesn't hurt a thing.

As for the pony, that might be a little stickier. I've seen those carburetors with cork floats, the varnish on the cork breaks down and the cork swells. It will lock the float into the closed possition solid as a plug. Then they use an air screw on the idle adjustment so any restriction in the idle passages will cause the adjustment to do nothing. A real boil-out cleaning might be necessary. But, you might get lucky.

Insurance or none, it's just real hard to come out on top with a fire. You always lose more than anybody else can see.
