Hi
The Starter Pinion lever on my 1944 9K Cat 12 Grader (B4600 Enginer like a D6) is really hard to move. I belieave it's been a bit hot, maybe a lub problem. Anyway I want to pull the pinion drive out. I have the Pony Motor Up About 2" and the 4 Bolts out but it doesn't want to budge. Is there anything I've missed in getting the pinion out?
THanks
Dave

All that holds it is the 4 bolts you said you removed & the gasket behind the 4 bolts & then inside there is an "O" ring seal & they can get dried out & stick.Make sure the clutch lever is in the position to let the clutch released or in the back position and maybe try to lightly bump the housing toward the diesel block with a wood 4X4 and see if it breaks loose. You can try a thin chisel between the bell housing and the starter pinion housing but be very careful or you could crack the casting flange. When going back coat the seal & gasket with some anti-seize compound then it won,t stick again if you ever have to remove it.

SJ,
Thanks for the info.
I suspected that was the case but wanted to confirm it. I'll work on it some more.
