The Caterpillar FIFTEEN was introduced in 1929 and was, in effect a larger version of the Caterpillar TEN, being mechanically very similar. The PV Caterpillar FIFTEEN is sometimes referred to as the “BIG” FIFTEEN to distinguish it from a later model Caterpillar FIFTEEN (“LITTLE” FIFTEEN) introduced in 1932 which was the direct descendent of the Caterpillar TEN.
The “Big” FIFTEEN was available in two widths or gauges of 40inches and 50inches (tracks center to center) as well as a High Clearance option. As with all other machines of the time, the color changed from grey to Hi-Way yellow in December 1931.

The Caterpillar FIFTEEN also formed the basis of one of the earliest forms of grader, or motor patrol.
