Some one needs to get this historic D-8 which saw years of service on the Ice. I believe it is in CA and was saved from the scrap. It runs and has been put back together ( the blade was cut up due to size)

The auction site says it closes in 9 days but then said it may be subject to early close. There is no but it now price so don't know what the early close might mean. Its still in California.

Nuts! We were told that if would be posted on this BB when it actually came up for sale. Not sure why we were not told as I had the guy on the phone who told me we would be the first to know! I have not gone on the site yet but will now.

Dan,

Yeah, you need maybe multiply you bid by at least 8 would be my guess.

You might want to check in on the fourumsforums site at the top of this thread as there are additional photos of it by a guy who saw her and work with her on the Ice

firpitch,

Looking at the pictures on the forumsforums site, I can pick out "Mary Ann", "Pam" and the other I think is "Colleen" pulling the shop buildings. The tractor up for auction does not appear on that forum as it still has the original cab mounted whereas the others have the newer cabs having been over to NZ for major overhaul. The three I mentioned were the ones featured at the 50 year birthday party and know all three of those are back here in the States. The auction tractor is still a bit of mystery but I talked with the guy who picked them up for GovPlanet who was told it was "Rebecca." We don't know when she left the ice but we do know she was there in 1980. The auction tractor has been on display across from the former Seabee Musuem in Port Hueneme since at least the mid-2000s as I saw it there in 2007.

No matter, this is one of the historical Antarctica SD8 LGPs and the only one which is still original from the factory (at least from the cab portion. All of them had parts replaced, switched, cannibalized, or otherwise cobbled together during their long life down there) and she needs a good home!

We're are all watching! Thanks for bringing this up as we did not get the notice that was promised!
