I have a 1947 D311 gen set 4V5892, which I bought in December. It has 2475 hours on the meter and after very little work, I got both engines running. Being a mechanic and not an electrician, I didn't pay attention to the fact the generator is 125 volts D/C output. That crushed my dreams of using it for stand-by power for my house! It is also missing the frame mounted fuel tank. Just wondering if anyone would have a generator and tank available, as the engines run great. The diesel has high water temp and low oil pressure shut-down and the starting system is 12 volt. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

You could look into whether your generator could be reconfigured for 120/240 60HZ. There are folks on here (looking at you, cc) that could point you in the right direction. Your other option is to just look for a six-pole generic generator if it's 1200rpm or a 4 pole if 1800 - I read somewhere that the Chinese junk heads are ok if you first go through and "detail" them

Thanks. If you could check on it sometime, that would be great, but it's not a big hurry. Also, I'm not sure if the base would be the same, but some measurements would solve that. My local electrician thinks mine was military, but there are no military tags on it. It apparently was equipped with a "residential" muffler, which is gone, but the brackets and flex pipe were on it yet. It also has a 12 volt system for starting the pony. I'm not very familiar with the gen sets, but I have owned graders and dozers for over 30 years. This d311 caught my eye!

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
