I am still looking for a starter for the pony on my 9U. It was making a small noise when I first started looking. I just used it again and it made an even more terrible noise and stopped working. It looks like the bendix has had it and the pinion gear is missing teeth chunks AND the commutator is all burnt with little weld spots. I would love to find a replacement.

Can you get a new bendix assembly or individual parts for it?! I assumed it would be obsolete. I imagine if the commutator is burning that there will be a short in the windings. Is that repairable?

I would take it to an auto electric rebuilder. Parts are still available. Or just call one using the deco rely tag #. Get an estimate of rebuilt cost. I have a used one in fair shape for $100.00 + shipping from So Cal. if interested.

The tag is missing off of mine. Do you have that number? How much would shipping to V0R2J0 in BC be?

Delco # 1107030 Except for the nose piece that is a very common type starter in the 1950s. Rebuilt many of them. See what you can find. want to bench test the one I have before we go to any more trouble.

Buying one in BC would save a lot of UPS cost. I can't imagine he cant get it rebuilt. I checked with a local rebuilder(small shop) and he said all the parts were available. I have not heard back from him. AN add here Goat motor, and various stuff, has a starter in Stanwood WA

Thanks oldbeek.
He may not have a rewind or auto electric outfit where he lives, that is a remote area.
Heck we are near a city of 80,000 people (Prince George B.C.) and there are no shops like that here either, that I know of.
Would probably have to to the big city (Vancouver B.C.)

The parts I have aren't going anywhere anyway, I'm too busy to try and market spare 9U bits.

Regards.

Years back I was offered to move to Washington to start such a business. A group of farmers were all moving up there and wanted to set me up in a shop. We specialized in the old stuff , farm, magnetos and heavy diesel.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
