This is the carcass of a model 12 motor grader at the Yukon Transportation Museum. Not much left--but there is the serial number plate, showing 9K1739 SP. There was no info about it at the museum, but I suspect it was part of building and maintaining the Alaska Highway (built in 1942). Can anyone provide the year of manufacture?
1940 numbers run from 9K1337 to 9K2540
D4600 engine increased HP from 66 to 70 with 9K2513

Thanks! That’s helpful. And strongly suggests it was used building the Alaska Highway or (and?) the Canol pipeline. Any idea what the SP might represent?
Hi, OnFoot.
The SP stands for Special Parts fitted at the factory during initial assembly - could include generator, lights, different gearing, cold weather pack and a good number of other things.
Just my 0.02.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Thanks, Deas! There's precious little left of the old girl now. But if she had belonged to the US Army, 'special parts' could make sense.
