Winter brings those times of boredom and stagnation, too cold to work in unheated shops, to wet and muddy to work the fields, so we wait for spring and warmer weather.

You might enjoy some time looking through some of the "old" photos on this website.

Don't be discouraged by failed "searches".
I typed in "Best" lots of results, Holt gave a few pictures, "SHAY" returns many of the early years of logging locomotives.  "Red River Lumber Co" has a photo of a fleet of "60's" at a landing.

Enjoy

Look at the size of those "yellow" Pine Logs. Note the "big wheels" behind the Sixty.

We tend to think of Caterpillar as major construction/mining equipment today, but let us not forget, the roots of Holt and Best were farming in the fertile Sacramento/San Joaquin Valleys and Delta.

Thankfully, there are the collectors, enthusiasts, clubs and other venues keeping these machines and memories alive.
ACMOC is one of the leaders in this "niche" and dedicated to CATERPILLAR, all with the efforts of YOU, the individuals making this available and working together.
Nothing beats the shows and demonstrations along with the great knowledge base you provide and share with others.

Here's a show that will break your Winter Doldrums if you want to travel to Eastern Pennsylvania.  We have a giant indoor show with all kinds of machines.

It felt like spring time here today in Northern California. Blue skies, balmy weather and a slight breeze; a great excuse to get out of the office this afternoon.
What is everyone else doing this week?

The link to the old logging photos is absolutely fantastic! I think I spent at least an hour looking at those the other night. I started to wonder if I was going to stumble onto a photo of my grandpa, who spent his career building logging roads in the woods.

I’m also in N. CA, and I have to admit I’m enjoying a little dry out, taking an opportunity after work to cut a little firewood for the shop. I spend 45 minutes in my little shop early each morning before going to work, and I like to have a fire. My current morning project is going through the engine on my old Ford 9n.
