Hey guys, I just recently went out searching for more dozers and found the same one my grandfather owned in the 70s and 80s, D69U with wet clutch with wide tracks, I think 22s? Dozer has been sitting since last spring. My grandfather rebuilt the motor and trans before he sold it to this man. The guy says he put at least 200 hours since he bought it. She's been out in the weather and looks rough, but the tracks look decent enough to last a while, and we pushed it off and the finals started weeping a little, all in all I offered him 5500 and that was me kinda low balling it. Also bought the truck my grandfather hauled it with, 64 chevy C60 with a custom body for dozer hauling, truck needs work too.

Then today I got a call from a local farmer who has been in the bis since the 50s, he has a 51 D69U that's been shed kept for its whole life, dozer looks great, under careage is decent with thin tracks and welded grousers, dozer has dry clutch and pony needs work, he said he'd let me have it and everything else for 6.its also a back mounted cable unit were my grandfathers is a front mounted

So can you guys maybe lead me in the right direction? What's y'all's take?

It really depends on the sentimental value of your grandfather's dozer. Weigh your options heavily. Sometimes emotional attachment makes you make dumb decisions. I have a D4 that is a basket case and I don't even know where to get started. Only problem is, my dad passed away the weekend after we got it home and got it running. If it wasn't for that, it would be parts at best. I feel your pain. Still, it would be cool to have your grandpa's whole set up.
