The most useful manual is the Operation and Maintenance Instructions (OMI), it will save you time, money and prevent you from making mistakes.
I found this one on eBay:

Hi Ricky, the oil to use is specified in the Operator's Manual I believe. You can likely find a copy to buy online if you don't already have one, or it may be in the Library here on the forum. In any case, your Cat dealer likely has a suitable oil for you to use.

Put a TO4 30wt transmission oil in it, Cat has a decent price on it, NAPA has it also

I never had the privilege of owning or operating a D6 C. But they are of the time period Cat was going for run everything on the same oil. I have not read the book for D6 C , but know the recommended oil changed back to thicker oil. So it would not surprise me if you could find operators manuals that don't agree on what oil to use.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
