Hi All,

Quick update, our Sawmill is now operational at the Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum located in Vista CA. The mill is powered by a D13000, which was recently repaired by retired caterpillar mechanic "Scotty" Graham, from Hawthorne Cat. We will be running again this weekend during our show, June 23rd & 24th 2018.

Nice. Vey nice! That also is a cool saw mill with the riding carriage and the top saw. I can hardly wait for the big logs to be put on the carriage with the top saw also. Speed up the feed to match a production mills speed and watch the 13000 puff a bit of smoke and up that purr to a growl. I can hardly wait.

That is the best show sawmill I've seen. Are they going to add viewing stands and some shade?
I was in SanDiego in the 80's but never made it to Vista, will have to get back "home" soon

Here is a log that was rolling the top blade as we made the first cut. Sorry no video, I had the honor of being sawyer. We made a lot of nice lumber with this log. I made 2" thick slabs then we restacked the slabs on the mill for resaw.

We do plan on building a cover over the mill and having viewing seats. We have a lot of additional equipment to refurbish and install and some yet to be picked up. There will be a jack shaft that will extend out past the power unit that will allow other equipment to belt up to the mill. Our old sawmill that was removed years ago was run by our 120 Holt power unit a few times, we will do this again with the new mill. I know of a Holt 75 tractor with a belt pulley that would probably like to play also.

I also took a few shots of our new sawmill operating over the last weekend's show. The guys have done a lot of excellent work installing it. When we had it donated, most everything was framed up with wood. Used steel found laying around for the most part on the property was used to fabricate the framework for the new mill. Eventually the top saw will become operational. The donors provided the large logs that were being sawn in the pictures.

The non-dimensional portions of the logs were sawed up by one of our ACMOC members on his Model T motorized buzz saw seen below. Next is a fresh log starting out the 10 AM demonstration on Sunday.

Listening to the D13000 growl as the log hits the blade was music to my ears!
