Our two Ton has hard steering when you pull the tiller bar to either side it takes a lot of effort. At a show last week an operator advised the two tons he had run were not that hard to steer. I have the service manual but no help there. Any advise would be welcome.

I have a couple of 2 Ton Cats and I find them harder to steer than say the 22 or 15, it takes a good 2 handed pull on that tiller to overcome the clutch spring pressure and I assume that is because they are running in oil unlike the dry clutch packs on the other Cats which are light on the controls in comparison, if you are pulling a implement the 2 Ton will turn much easier and make sure you are running 30W oil in the back end, not 80-90W or 85-140W, but even when the 30W oil is cold they take some turning.

Thanks Mike I may not have a problem just a hard turning tractor. the old operators must have been strong.

Try draining the steering clutch compartment one my two tons wasn't steering right when I drained it the oil was so thick it was like 00grease. After flushing it out clean and putting new oil it steers really nice now. JM

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
