I bought SAE 30hd motor oil yesterday for the transmission in my 9u but after looking on the site I seen a lot of talk about 80/90 gear oil the book says sae30 so is that still the way to go or is it the gear oil the way to go?

Yes, 80/90 is preferred for trans and finals, 30w for main oil clutch, if equipped.
