Has anyone rebuilt a transmission in Cat 950B loader? Cat says the clutches are gone in 2nd gear. They quoted a price of $11,000 to do a complete rebuild. Do you need any special tools to do this or should I let Cat do it? The machine has 16,500 hours. This is the first major repair. Thinking of rebuilding engine while out since it is starting to use oil and smoke a little. Cat price $13,000. The motor I will do myself.

You could do it yourself. Just need a clean warm and dry place to work and something to lift with. Get a sheet of plywood /bench top to lay everything out on so you keep track of where it goes. Need to pay close attention to areas that clutch seals run on. Replace every seal inside of it.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
