Been looking at track pin presses. The prices are all over the place even within vendors. What is everyone's thoughts? The cheaper ebay/amazon presses? Or the big $$$ professional presses? Has anyone had experience with the overseas built presses? This is something that we would use, but don't want to break the bank. Used ones seem very hard to find. Honestly, i'm more confused about this than when I started. Even finding somebody to press track pins is difficult and or expensive, in my area. We also have attempted to make one. We got a bit scared of the pressures.

So bottom line, we would like to find a budget track pin press. But I'm apprehensive about the lower price options.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Hi, Aaron LAOL.

What you might need to pay will depend a fair bit on the the sizes of the track that you want to work with - the bigger the tracks, the bigger the cost. To handle the really big stuff takes a LOTTTT of 'grunt' - which costs.

For the imported units, you might find some reviews on sites like Trustpilot. On-line searches for an individual make and model may also bring up some reviews.

If you can find a Caterpillar Service Tool portable hydraulic press with the tooling for pressing track pins, that may be your best bet. E-bay, Craigslist, etc..

Hope this helps.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

We are thinking that D2 to D6 size would be adequate. It looks like due diligence will be the way forward. Hopefully one pops up.

There have been some folks that have tried the imported, online auction units offered with mixed results. I think 777Auctions (Atascadero, CA) currently has one of these available to bid on. A local member just bought a pair of them (not very much $) to try out. Best of luck to ya. JM

What are you intended uses? Just master pins or are you planning on complete job of turning Pins and Bushings? Do not be fooled by the designation of D2,D8, etc. Every track and every pin and bushing has the potential to require more pressure than others. Having a catastrophic failure of equipment is not something you want to experience! Proper equipment and setup are not options when it comes to life safety. THINK ABOUT the PRESSURES INVOLVED - same for pulling Sprockets, etc. (Yes - been there and never want to go back for seconds!) - cts

In the immediate future we just need to shorten some chains. From 5 roller to 4. In the long run it may be turning pins etc.

I came across this on another crawler site. Starts with a home made press that failed. Then moves on to a cheap foreign made press that did get the job done. It was very fast, but I believe place the press was from was in there.

Home made track press failure! - This job was a disaster.

Just watched the video. A bit of a circus. A fair bit of dodgy patch ups to make it work. Something typical of what the Aussies would do LOL.
