You will have to see how the setup you have is adjusted, however the setting is the same for most mag ignitions. The impulse should trip as you bring the engine over top dead center. If it trips early it will pull the crank out of you hand if you try to start it. That's how some people end up with broken arms. If it trips late the engine tend to heat up and won't run well at WOT. Do the timing with the ignition off. Pull the engine through with the crank SLOWLY until the impulse trips. The TDC mark should be lined up. If not adjust accordingly. This works for most everything from AC to Rumley.
i have an additional peice in between my Mag and the rod that connects to the mag... is that normal?
Hi LCM,
yes, the fiber drive block is standard. It is just that 22Randy has it removed for the picture. His drive tangs are orientated about where they would be if the block was installed.
Hi 22Randy,
I have not seen that type of drive before, but, that does not mean it is not correct and by the look of the holes in the plate with the lock tabbed nut I would say that the device would vernier around a hole at a time to adjust the timing setting.
Cheers,
Eddie B.
Thanks for the suggestions guys, I used a magic marker for a reference on the hub and went ahead and removed the nut. I thought that the drive hub was threaded but it turned out to be a taper lock fit and it can be adjusted as little or much as needed. I moved it a little bit and put it back together and checked it again but it was too far advanced so I had to back it off just a hair to get it right on.
