This is the little guy that I got lucky with. Big shout out to Chapter 15 member Mike B., for going beyond the call of duty to schmooze the former owner for me.

The wheels are kind of rough. Has anyone refurbished a set? Cutting edge is barely usable as it is. I can flip it around, but someone did that already, as it is worn a tad to one side. Edges are inexpensive, so ACME Rigging will probably get the call for the salesperson to come and measure a new one. The slobber bits on the ends should come off too; I think I will fabricate new bolt ons.

It isn’t perfect, but now I have something to go behind one of the gassers or a D2.

Yes the terracer wheels get beat up take them to your local steel fabricator that has access to a laser or water jet cutter easy for them to copy. Once they download them in the computer. Off the top of my head I believe they’re 26 inches diameter. Skinner

Or maybe you can find some rubber tire rims?

Great ideas guys. After we finish playing with it, I will ponder whether to go with steel wheels again or make something with tires. An acquaintance has an off brand grader with tires/wheels bolted to the sides of steel wheels. I like the functionality of his. I need to purchase it, so I can show everyone what I meant. LOL.

This grader would actually make a good project for a student. not too big, not really "heavy" and does not take a lot of space. Hmmmmm.

After looking closer at the wheels, they appear to be in decent shape. The issue is/are the rings around the lips of the wheels. I can probably torch them off to clean it up. My biggest worry is should I hire someone to roll some new ones for me and stitch weld or tack new ones in place? I doubt this critter would be used for any real work here, but I try to do things right most of the time.

Time for me to open up the books I have for this tiny critter. Thoughts? JM

JM, a good fabrication place could roll flat bar to make to width section of the wheel and maybe another piece rolled on edge (rod or bar for grip) then they would need to cut plate in a ring to replace the outer section of wheel, reused the main wheel section and hub center, so basically change the outer riveted/bolted section as a thought

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
