from Cat : 8f-8079 shifter boot is now around $41 compared to $24 a few years ago
1b-3756 rollers for the steering bell crank are $27 each , was $9 in 2003.
supply and demand they told me.
I'm thinking of going into work tomorrow and tell them I need a 300% wage increase for the cost of doing business. the demand for suppling my effort.
MTU and Detroit Diesel are along the same lines as Cat on cranking up pricing

Shifter boot was about $25 last fall. They're not selling anything so they're raising their prices to make the same profit on reduced sales. Everyone is doing it. Worse, they are shifting manufacturing to China. Cat prices for chinese parts. Good for short term profits. Their decision not to sell engines to new truck manufacturers is a similar move; perhaps Cummins will become the engine of choice.

i signed for a couple of turbo's for a 16v 2000 MTU the other day and it was $28,000 for the pair outright with no cores. I dont care if they were solid gold, they're no diffent from any other turbo. Its ridiculous to be priced that high.

Makes you wonder if its no accident that the dealers put some of their best and most liked people behind the parts counter to keep the customers from going postal. Some guy(s) in corporate depends upon the extra revenue from transactions like yours for his year end bonus. When you don't need that turbo overnight you can cheat him out of his bonus by figuring out who made the turbo and buying a new or rebuilt one from the original source.

I know last January when I went to buy a can of gasket cement they wanted $ 20.00 ! The last tin was @$10.00 ! If it was not the best thing going I would of told them to forget it ! Like Mike says they boosted ALL their prices to keep the Boss's salaries HIGH and shareholders happy rather than keeping and helping out their customers during these tough times (But they ALL did)! However I did not hear that Cat is not going to sell their engines to truck manufacturures anymore ! Did they discontinue their line of "C" engines ? They ARE the BEST !

Unless there was a recent change, you'll have to buy their truck; made by Navistar if I remember right. Got mad and haven't paid any attention for two years. The 600 Cat with jakes and retarder couldn't be beat for lowbedding. The market share for lowbeds was pretty small, now smaller in this economy, so I doubt Cummins will spend the money to design and build a retarder. I know everyone is going to tell me all you need are good jakes but there is nothing like a retarder jake combination when bailing off the hill with bonus purple.

use the jakes too much and you break the rocker arms on the C series. I replace them all the time at work- Those oilfield drivers like to listen to them all the time so if you use them when you actually need them you'll probably never have trouble.

I was told by a person at Cat over a year ago that Kenworth and Pete, acquired their own engine company, Freightliner was going to push Mercedes, from their parent company, Mack is going with their brand of engine from Volvo. In the hard times, these companies are pushing what they own. While Cat does not own or have a parent company that owns a truck line. They are working with Navistar to come up with a truck of their own. At least that is the way it was told to me.

Looks like they acquired the technology from DAF, The Netherlands and are building an engine plant in Mississippi. Got to give them credit; they didn't build it in China. Hope the KW engineers are involved. If Paccar assigns the job to Pete it will take years to produce anything.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
