Hi all,

I just acquired an R-4 yesterday that was stuck. After finishing the engine disassembly today I noticed that a couple of the dowels that hold the rod bearings (part# 4b47) in each half have been partially drilled out. Does anyone know if these can be punched on through the connecting rod once the wrist pin bushing is removed, or tap them down from the wrist pin end? I am also looking for these pins if anyone has an idea where to start. As always any help is much appreciated.

:doh: I never thought to try 4B0047! Thanks for the help. Yes the rods are drilled to force some oil to the wrist pin bushings.

could you thread them, screw a rod in and use a slide hammer ?

Thanks for the help again guys. I was able to tap the pins 1/4-28 and pull the dowel out easily. I also found the replacements and have them ordered.

The same approach is used on the dowel that retains the countershaft rear bearing on the D2. Have to remove two frost plugs, then screw a 10-24 (I think) screw into the dowel to extract it (if it doesn't just fall straight out).
