To the powers that be........Sirs with regard to picture posting.
Is it to be assumed that all members have a picture quota ?
If this is the case, bearing in mind that 98% of members choose not to post pictures, is there any reason why the quota could not be removed from users such as my self who have an interest in showing our photographs as it has become obvious that there is interest in older posts which unfortunately have had to have the picrtures removed.

Use an out side photo hosting site like photobucket.com. Its free and you can store all the photos you can take. Its just the one i use there are others out there.
Im sure the reason they limit you on photos is if half of the members on here had 100 photos stored on acmoc server then it would slow it down and everyone would complain of the site being overbearingly slow. That just how ive had explained to me by other forum moderators.

Hi yellow iron, i understand what yr saying and swishy has said the same. however due to the limited number of picture posters it would be a lot easier if we had larger quota.s

Attachment limits are currently set to 3GB per person which is rather generous and was adjusted some time ago to address the question of those not posting photos "donating" their space to others. 3GB is far in excess of what most photo hosting sites would even allow, so if someone is bumping up against that limit I suggest they shoot me a PM and we'll take a look at what they've got and see if there's anything we need to move into the archives or the home page.

If the Photo Quota Limit is set at 3GB...then I could post every photo on my PC...hundreds of them...re-sized and not...I believe the quota must be set at 3MB...When I first tried to upload a photo from my digital camera, I soon found out that the photos had to be re-sized to a few hundred KB...It is amazing that so few photos were uploaded to reach a quota limit...of 3GB ? ... It appears to me that the Photo Quota Limit must be 3MB....

While searching for information...from one thread to another...posts with photos constantly come up... no longer available...The photos must have been deleted because of the Quota Limit...So, the value of the photo information is lost...Then, we start all over again...New threads, new posts, and such trying to obtain information...

Well, not to create any hate and discontent this early on Saturday morning but if you look at the "attachment" screen that comes up you see that the individual member is limited to 3MiB of disk space and each individual attachment is likewise limited in size. I pulled a screen cap of the screen for your reference. Both the individual attachment size and the total storage limits are what the BBS members are bouncing off of.

Carls, that is my point. Obviously not everbody wants to view my pictures but some want to view older ones that i have had to delete in order that i can post new ones. Cheers Gordon.

Your quota is the total amount of attachements you can have uploaded to your account here on the forum. There is a separate individual file size limitation which makes it easier for everyone to view photos. Imagine if you will someone trying to read a thread with photos in it that's connecting through dial-up (yes, we've got several folks still using it) or a slower "lite" broadband connection. That's why we've got a "meet in the middle" file size limitation which is why you need to re-size using whatever photo editor you've got (Windows Paint is one almost everybody has) to fit that standard. Believe me, and I know this from unpleasant experience, if you don't set a limit there'd be pictures posted well over 1GB in size and even the folk with fast connections could run out for a cheeseburger before the thread managed to load.

If you really like sharing and posting photos the best option is to use something like SmugMug for photo hosting. It's independant of everything else and gives you total control over what you've got to post and how much, all for a small fee that gives you flexibility without hassles. I post photos on many, many different forums and basically got tired of running into limitations far more draconian that what y'all think we've got here and finally took the plunge and went with SmugMug and couldn't be happier. Short learning curve, inexpensive, no headaches. Just the way I like things! 😄

Now, back to our system: Shoot me a PM if you're having problems re-sizing or posting. Everyone's got a HUGE quota, and if y'all still don't believe me take a look at the attached screenshot from the forum control panel showing exactly what each and every registered member has (the astute will note I've made a slight change from what was stated earlier, but it's still HUGE!)...

Well, something ain't right......I see the typical 3MB limit ( about 12 to 20 pictures of restricted size) as others have stated. Maybe you ought to try using this feature to see what the limitations are.

Also try scanning a full page of print and see how well you can read it.
