Please enjoy the newspaper clipping that was saved by Lori Kirkland. There are some here you may know. Thank you Lori!

George Hansen farmed in the Shandon area for many years. His son Steve also farmed there and worked for a national trucking company. Many may know Steve. He is the able man behind the scenes that that makes the Santa Margarita show possible. Steve has devoted over 40 years to the preservation of historic tracked tractors in the Paso Robles Pioneer Day Museum. With Steve is his son Travis when he was a tad. Travis continues on in Paso Robles agriculture with a custom farming business.

My Father returned from the south pacific to start farming in 1947 in the San Miguel area. As his bones gave out he transitioned into a successful real estate career. I assumed his farming enterprise in 1974 until the margins became so thin in 1983 when I moved on to real estate and publishing. My son Jake has made his way, very well I might add, in the hospital construction business with a major firm. His efforts have landed him as their project manager on several jobs. He is currently closing in on the finish of the Stanford Hospital remodel.

Russel Kirkland farmed in the Creston area from his return from the pacific theater with McArthur until he retired. Keith, his son, struck out into the welding and steel fabrication business and successfully owned PRW Steel for over 35 years when he sold it to a successor about 10 years ago. Keith's son Jared held little interest in the steel business though he was quite capable. Jared, seeking a bigger challenge, is now with a major firm designing and constructing robots.

Steve Keith and I all grew up together and all have strong ties to the northern San Luis Obispo county hills.

Casey those are interesting family stories. Your ability to remember names and places is incredible to me. I do well to remember my own name.

Are the Harris and Sixty still around?

Thanks Casey for posting, I have the same article framed and hanging behind my bar at my house. Yes our 60 is still around, it was one of two bought new in 26’ by my family. I took over driving the 60 and pulling the Harris harvester in our local Pioneer Day parade from my dad in my mid teenage years and continue to today. Travis

Travis give us a little history on the 60 like how it got to the ranch all those years ago. And what the locals thought about that beast of a tractor. Skinner

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
