I recently discovered parts.cat.com a web site for finding parts, support and quick delivery from CAT. How great! One can enter a part number for your machine and immediately find out if it is available, the price and have it shipped to one’s door. All this was going well until I got to check out and an error occurred. I ended up stopping by Holt Tractor in Stockton to fill my order, but why can’t I do this on line, I wondered. The next day I got a call from a nice lady at CAT offering to help me establish an account. She asked for my model number. D2 I replied. That’s fine, what’s the serial number, she asked. 3JXXXX, I replied. Something doesn’t seem right, can you send me a picture? That’s where the fun ended. This high technology doesn’t recognize the old stuff even tough the parts are there! I tried to explain to the lady that they are missing out on business, but new business was not in her job description.
Anyone else in ACMOC have any ideas how to let CAT know we’d like to buy our parts on parts.cat.com!
The way to do it is to use the part number, not the tractor serial number. I had a good parts guy at Milton Cat but he retired unfortunately. With him, he knew what I had and knew how to look it up in their system. At some point, and it may have already happened, slow-moving items are dropped from the catalogue.
Hi, IronKitten.
I found when I was working onna ranch in California a couple of years ago that many of the older machines required searching for parts in a section of the parts listings known as "Classic Caterpillar" - got that tip from a parts man at Quinn Cat, Santa Rosa, CA..
Doesn't matter to me any more 'coz I yain't wprking there any more and I don't have any Cats to need parts.
Just my 0.02.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
