I wound up with what seems to be a Wisconson AC4 inline 4 cylinder engine. Apparently they were made in the 30's - 50's and good for 16 hp @ 2200 rpm. This one is missing a few pieces but could probably run without too much work or be a good source of parts. I don't have the time or space to mess with it and no idea where to even start looking for someone who would be able to use it. Any ideas?

That's one idea I guess. Would be good as a power unit too, it has a PTO clutch on it. It was stuck when I got it but freed up easily with a bit of diesel in the bores and some fiddling. Sounds like it may have loose rod bearings turning it over, and I've no idea if the rings are any good after being stuck. Also missing the sheet metal, fuel pump and governor, or at least governor linkage. So it wouldn't take much I think to be usable, but the flip side is it would definitely take some work. I'm tempted to keep it as a toy, but I'm moving and already have more junk than I know what to do with....

I believe that they were used on one of the Caterpillar- John Deere small towed type grain harvestors just after Deere took over Caterpillar's towed harvestor line.

Does it have a Wisconsin tag on it?
Surprised to see its an inline overhead valve with a distributor and starter for that vintage?
I would have said Wisconsin only built air cooled, magneto, hand crank flat head engines but you learn something new everyday!

No tag or serial/casting number I can find, but comparing it to pictures and the manual it's clear that's what it is. Everything I find says magneto & hand start too, so I think this is either a late production special option or a conversion someone did.

Is there a Governor underneath the Ignition Distributor attached to the Carburetor like shown in Ag-Mike's YouTube video?

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
