A friend has a Hop Rod that he has tried several times to get it to work but didn't. Finally he took it to someone to rebuilt it but everyone is afraid to try it because of a rumor that it can go 20 feet high.

If you crawl through enough old issues of HOT ROD magazine you can find a gasoline powered pogo stick made by a California car artist and borderline nut-case inventor, VonDutch I think it was, and a rundown on how well it did/didn't work. I suspect this is where the 20 foot notion came from but I don't remember just exactly what the effect was--20 feet with rider or 20 feet after it had thrown the rider.😆

I'd give it a go, the idea that thing will send someone up 20' is pure hyperbole! I've got a Warsop rammer with a piston almost the size of one from a Pratt & Whitney R2800 and that manages to get about 2 or 3 feet in the air - I think it probably weighs about 200lbs.

This clip should give you the idea of power and potential:

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
