Attached are a couple photos of my new track frames and new pivot shaft for my CAT22 2F5209. I am in the process of drilling all the holes in the frames and aligning them parallel and at the right width. I'd be real interested in hearing from folks what the correct assembly sequence is to put the entire undercarriage together on the tractor. Do I install the pivot shaft with bearings and angle braces onto the tractor first, then attach the track frames, then add the bottom rollers and idlers? Hi, Puffer.
Methinks I'd go with putting the pivot shafts complete with diagonal braces in first, then tie the diagonal braces up out of the way.

Then I think I would put the track frames on, complete with rollers in place, assuming that I had a means to lift them, rollers and all. (How many friends and cartons do you have?)

Then lower the diagonal braces and bolt them in place and add the front idlers.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Thanks, Deas. Would you have the large outer bearings bolted to the frames before installing the frames on the pivot shafts, or would you have the bearings on the pivot shaft first, then bolt on the frames? Also, it is not obvious to me that there is enough room to reach between the rollers and track frame to install the bolts for the bearings and diagonal braces, but I guess there must be. I do have a decent 2 ton lift. Ray

Hi, Puffer.
Methinks (AGAIN???????????? This is getting to be hard work. LOL.) that the oval hole in the top plate of the track frame is for bolt access, both ahead to the diagonal brace and back to the pivot bearing - if needed. And then there is the possibility of coming up from underneath between the rollers - - - IF you are not worried about the whole issue falling down on top of your arm.

I think I would be setting the bearings, seals, etc., in the pivot housing with the housings bolted to the track frames and slide the whole lot on as one unit - - - - CAREFULLY, of course. But the other way would work too, with possibly less chance of damaging anything. But I LIKE a challenge. LOL.

If you are worried about accessing the two inside bolts on each diagonal brace. slide the track frames on to the pivot shaft with the braces bolted to the track frames and then bolt them up to their inner pivots later.

Happy installing.

Thanks, Deas. I will try installing the pivot shaft with diagonal braces first, without the outer bearings, then installing the track frames with rollers and pivot shaft bearings. Ray

Deas:
I’ve never seen anyone else use the quote my father (horn in 1912) used all the time about more ways to kill a cat. . . It really brightened my day and brought back some great memories of him when I saw it. We had some great times together working on our old Thirty-five and Thirty, trying to get them cranked, etc. when I was a kid.

Hi, DavidG.
Happy to be of service, Sir, even if I didn't know at the time that I was doing so. Also, happy to hear that you and your father had some good times and that you have those memories.

On the 22 the support bearing has to be on the axle first and then roll the assembly under the axle the inside bolts use a bar with tapped holes and the diagonal braces use the block of steel with tapped holes for the blind bolts, should be easy to do.

Hi, MARCOTEN.
I'm gonna step in here and possibly put my foot in my mouth by suggesting they were for a walk-in Russell grader attachment.
