I have a No44 hydraulic power unit on my D4 that has developed an oil leak through the operating shaft and seeing that I have it removed for radiator repairs I will open it up and change the seal.
I took a punt and purchased a parts manual on ebay without knowing the pump No and turns out it is for the wrong model range! Typical.
Can any one provide the shaft seal No for a model 44, S6W 104, 37GPM @1400rpm, valves 1 unit?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Geoff, I just looked at my books and all I have for the 44 pump is 6W5001-Up (Form 30032) though having just pulled a #41 pump apart and replaced seals, bearings and rotor my advice is just be careful when pulling the old seals out so as not to damage them too much and you will see the old Cat part numbers on them though my #44 book is a bit hard to read in that it shows 2 seals on the input shaft that appear identical but show different numbers 5F4721 and 4F8946 though the arrow is not pointing at the seal 4F8946, it seems to be pointing at a sleeve on the shaft so maybe someone can clarify what the real deal is.
Good luck
Mike

Maybe. OM will chime in but if I remember right seals are back to back with one seal is faced each way. I dont remember which way the lips face. There was a post on these a while back.

Check that s/n again, the 6W series starts out at 6W5001-up. Uses the 5F4721 shaft seal but that number has been changed to use two separate single lip seals Cat #3H1397, CR #15141 or Timken/National #51098.

OM, I haven't been able to find a serial number on my #44 single spool on my 5U13753 (late 1954?) - original I think. What features can I use to to identify and narrow down the serial # range so that I can order the right parts if I need them (drive shaft seal likely)? Tag is gone and I can't see any numbers stamped under it.

That would use the 7F3985 Hydraulic Control Group
9Wxxxx series 27 gpm, single valve
Shaft seals are all the same 5F4721 as mentioned above.
The internal filter changed from sock type to cartridge at 9W364
They used a different cartridge retaining system (spring and washer) at 9W1611-up.

Thanks guys,
It will take me a couple of weeks to get back and re-check that model No.

Many thanks! Ended up sighting the serial #. Just hadn't wire-brushed enough and shone the flashlight on the right angle - 9W5883

OM - one more question - would you know what the appropriate parts catalog form for this unit is? I have Form 30032 which covers 9W1-9W363 and 9W364 up - it shows a different main filter part as you mentioned so perhaps this form is the one I need?

Hi Team,
the S prefix on the S/No stands for Steelweld, a local Australian licence built unit.
When Cat of Australia took back the licence from Steelweld when they opened the Tullamarine(Melbourne) Plant the S/no's for the 44 and the 41 HC's went to the S/No's shown below with no change in the data as for the Steelweld units.

They built 44HC's from S6W1 to S6W767 and then Cat Of Aus. built units became 22D , same as 6W5001 up USA units use Parts Book Form No 32856.

They also built 44HC's S9W1 to S9W153 and then Cat Of Aus. built units became 23D, same as 9W1-up, use Parts Book Form No 32881

Also Steelweld built No 41 HC's they were S/No S24C1 to S24C325, Cat Of Aus. built units became 24D, same as 24C1up, use Parts Book Form No 32547

Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Hi EDB,
Thanks for clearing that searial No issue up.
It looks like I may have the correct parts book after all.
Thanks again.
Geoff.

Covered in several parts catalogs.
My Form #30032 states effective with 9W1611-up as the high end s/n
Actual coverage of 9W5883 is covered in Form #31264 and Form #UEO32881-01 which replaces Form #31337
Also the #44 for D2's Form #31265
