Hauled 83j down to my sons yesterday to do a little brush work. Worked about 10 minutes and when I was on a light push with 2/3 throttle it dropped a cylinder. Started hammering like a rod bearing, heavy black smoke. When I shut it down it took alot longer to quit turning, started it up again but no change and shut it down again. Oil and oil pressure was good, temp was good and water was good. Fuel level was very low, sounded like it sucked a valve and knocked a hole in piston. Went to load it on lowboy to take it home 4 hours later, started it and it went to knocking real bad just like in the morning. Rolled about 15 feet and started up the gooseneck, the hammering went away, the smoke went away and the cylinder came back like it never happened. Put a new fuel filter on today but didn't have time to fuel it up and start it up. This appears to be fuel or injecter related, tractor has 3600 hours on it. What just happened and how do I keep it from doing it again. Thanks for any help you can give.
