I'm over here in Portland OR, for the next two months for college, well caterpillar classes. just today I have talked to two farmers and have found 2 d9's, I believe both are 18a's, 1 d7 3t (he claims) and a d6 9u. the 9u and 3t shouldn't be much, just haven't ran in 5 or so years, going to check all compartments, clean carb if there is any fuel in them.. then try and fire it up, maybe file points in the mag... same goes for one of the 18a's but its been sitting for about 12 years... then the last 18a has the nose taken off and the front mount cable unit.. he said he got it rebuilt and never got to putting it back on. neither of them remember where their manuals are.... so I may need some help from you guys if that's okay.. feels great to finally have a reason to post again and finally working on some true old iron not just d6c's etc... haha

Hope everyone's been doing good and staying out of trouble..

I will be down in Petaluma CA for the 4th of July working with Jr Ponte for the weekend hope to see some people while I'm down there (7uPuller)

Hey LilCatMec,

Good to hear from you... I just bought 2 D9's. One is a 18-a. I need an undercarriage. Take pictures of what you've got and post here for me. The other one is a D9e/49a. It's a great tractor. Rd4 is still waiting for you...

got the d6 9u fired up after pulling the starter and cleaning it up, the Bendix would not return..

got the pony fired up on the d8 18a, but it kept running out of fuel/power before the main engine would fire, pulled the carb and didn't find anything that made me think it was the issue. cleaned the sediment bowl and opened the fuel shutoff with the sediment bowl off and there wasn't enough fuel to keep a straight stream. so I pulled the tank off (there was a lot of rust in the tank) and pressure washed it out, created a couple pin holes. so I jb welded it so I can get it running tomorrow. (were going to use por15 just wanting to make a quick fix for now)

the d7 17a is another story, pulled the carb because its overflowing through the up pipe, reassembled it, and its doing the same thing, tomorrow I'm going to pull it back off and check the float level.. the gearbox for the pony to main motor has milky fluid so I'm going to flush it, and I'm also not getting spark. going to pull the cap off and sand the points and see if she will throw a spark..

and I may be getting a 1466 IH for doing the easy work of getting these running again and putting them back together...

that's all I have for now!

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
