I have a gas 50 we have been parting out. The big question is removing the steering clutches. I will post pictures of them later on the for sale board. I want to take the clutches out with out breaking anything as the clutches and brakes are in good shape. The left brake lining has crumbled from age so would need new lining. What are the pitfalls and surprises I will find when we take the final drives off. I have not been able to find a shop manual to guide me on this. I was told by a local operator that it is exactly the same as a D7, I could use the D7 manual if I could verify that they are the same.. Any help on this issue would be deeply appreciated.

if you are parting it out , do you have a really good exhaust manifold?

Don, you need not remove the finals, as that will not get you very far into the steering. What you need to do is remove the entire transmission top, and then the attach points for the brake bands, the bearing caps for the cross shaft. Then remove the bolts holding the brake drum to the flange, you will have to turn the input shaft to rotate the drums 360 deg. Then lift the cross shaft & clutches right out after taking care not to bust your back(its heavy)
