Ed I always thought the Mono Lake near you and Clear Lake near me were active but check this map out. Willie

Willie,
Lately, but not active at present, is the San Andreas fault, that runs north and south,a bit west of I-5, and right through Parkfield, Ca. where the USGS, has monitors placed on the fault.
2010, when you went to Santa Margarita, you probably drove on Hwy 41, or 46 near Parkfield.
Where Hwy 41 crosses the fault, the roadbed will really get your attention, as it is very rough, unless Cal Trans has graded it and applied new surface recently.
We get rattled frequently from Mono also.
Although this response is too late for Christmas, I do wish to add my hearty wishes for a Happy New Year to all the fine folks out there who love Caterpillar, Best, and Holt equipment. May the health of you, your family, and loved ones in 2012 be better than in 2011. May we stay out of wars, pay our bills, and live in dignity. With best wishes for one and all -
